Mapping and Hydrographic Surveys Pty Ltd (MHS) is pleased to announce the introduction of its new MKII Very High Resolution 2D Marine Reflection Seismic (MaRS) System.
The system has been developed to address the growing need for port development and marine infrastructure engineering investigations to acquire higher resolution geophysical data to a greater depth of penetration and through harder materials than commonly associated with traditional Sub Bottom Profiling systems.
Based on well proven 2D seismic technology from the offshore oil industry, the MKII MaRS system utilises a specialised seismic source and highly sensitive hydrophone streamer (1Hz - 2.5kHz) to position along-line sub-strata layers and determine P-wave velocities in one survey pass. MKII MaRS also solves challenges that arise when using traditional systems to acquire geophysical data in near shore and very shallow water operations.
Sub seabed strata grading from soft sediments with P-wave velocities around 1540 m/s to weathered and fractured materials with P-wave velocities above 2800m/s have recently been mapped. The correlation of material compressional P-wave velocities together with stratification data provides valuable information for engineering projects such as dredging, piling, offshore drill rig site surveys and infrastructure construction.
The MKII MaRS system compliments MHS already comprehensive list of Marine Seismic and Sub Bottom Profiling systems including high resolution BOOMER, PINGER and CHIRP systems, all of which are well known and well accepted marine geophysical systems.
